## State-Space Control. Week from 18th May. Online teaching and learning process

Hi everybody,

The plan of this week includes a theory and exercises session on 20th of May from 10.30 to 12.30 and a lab session from 12.30 to 14.30. (Please note that this week we will also start with the theory and exercises session). This is the plan for each of these sessions:

**1. Theory and exercises session.**Â 20th May from 10.30 to 12.30. This session will be imparted by means of the videoconferencing tool GMeet.

- We will finish studying how to control MIMO Systems and we will do a complete example about it.

**2. Practical session**. 20th May from 12:30 to 14:30. This session will also be imparted by means of the videoconferencing tool GMeet.

- Remember that this day will be the deadline for the reports of Lab5
- First, we will solve doubts about Labs 5 and 6
- Then, we will introduce Lab 7, explaining the exercises that you will have to complete for this final lab practice.

## Announcement Midterm Exam 2

Hello everyone,

TheÂ 2nd partial exam will be held onÂ May 27 at 10.30 am. The length of the exam is 2 hours. This exam will evaluate the contents of Units 2 and 3 (lessons 2.1 to 3.3).Â Please find detailed instructions in the attached document.

The exam will be composed ofÂ 2 exercises Â (7 marks) and 2Â questions or brief exercises (3 marks).

YouÂ can make use of a computer (Matlab/Simulink) during the exam to make the calculations.

Remind thatÂ in the continuous evaluation model, the final mark will be:

â€“ Midterm Exam 1. 30% of the mark.Â (April 24)

â€“ Midterm Exam 2.Â 40% of the mark.Â Â (May 27)

â€“ Practical mark. 30% of mark.Â Â (Each report has a specific deadline)

â€“ Final exercises (available on the blog). Up to 1 additional point.Â (You can solve these three exercises either individually or in teams up to 3 students. The deadline is June 3)

The plan of this week includes a theory and exercises session on 13th of May from 10.30 to 12.30 and a lab session from 12.30 to 14.30. (Please note that this week we will start with the theory and exercises session). This is the plan for each of these sessions:

**1. Theory and exercises session.**Â 13th May from 10.30 to 12.30.Â This session will be imparted by means of the videoconferencing tool GMeet.

- We will do a complete exercise of lesson 3.3 (control systems to track a reference).
- We will start studying how to control MIMO Systems (systems with multiple inputs and multiple outputs).

**2. Practical session.**Â 13th May from 12:30 to 14:30:

- First, we will solve doubts about Lab5.
- The deadline for the reports of Lab5 (both part1 and part2) will be the 20th of May.
- Then, we will do Lab6, in which we will perform the complete analysis and control of a practical system, including its integral control.

- Today we will do part 2 of Lab 5. Please, try to solve last exercises of part 1 before this day, so that you can ask doubts and we ensure that you can follow part 3 properly
- Also, this day will be the deadline of the optional exercises of Lab 4.

**2. Theory and exercises session. 6th May from 12.30 to 14.30.Â **This session will also be imparted by means of the videoconferencing tool GMeet.

- We will study lesson 3.3: Design of control systems to track a reference. We will also do a complete example of this lesson.
- Please remind that you can do the final exercises (available on the blog), which can add up to 1 additional point to your final mark (continuous evaluation). You can solve these three exercises either individually or in teams up to 3 students. The deadline is June 3.

The plan of this week includes a lab session on 29th of April from 10.30 to 12.30 and a theory and exercises session from 12.30 to 14.30. This is the plan for each of these sessions:

**1. Practical session. 29th April from 10.30 to 12.30.**Â Â This session will be imparted by means of the videoconferencing tool GMeet.

- We will do Lab5 part 1. This session will be partially guided by the professor, so be ready to solve the exercises at the same pace as him, using Matlab.
- Remember that you can do the two optional exercises of Lab4 (exercises 5 and 6), which can grant youÂ +0.25 additional points per exercise in the final mark of the practices. The deadline of the optional exercises of Lab4 will be the 6th of May. An annotated PDF has been uploaded in the Â«Journal of LecturesÂ» section of the blog. This PDF has some comments that can help you to do the proposed optional exercises.

The plan of this week includes a lab session on 8th of April from 10.30 to 12.30 and a theory and exercises session from 12.30 to 14.30. This is the plan for each of these sessions:

**1. Practical session. 8th April from 10.30 to 12.30.Â **This session will be imparted by means of the videoconferencing tool GMeet.

- First, remember that this day will be the deadline of the reports of Lab3.
- We will begin with an introduction to Lab4. This lab practice will take two sessions (8th and 22th of April). We will introduce the main concepts of this lab practice, with examples.
- Then, the exercises of this lab practice, which you must solve, will be explained.
- Finally, you will be allowed to ask any remaining doubts that you may have about Lab3.

**2. Theory and exercises session. 8th April from 12.30 to 14.30.**

This session will also be imparted by means of the videoconferencing tool GMeet. In this session we will finish lesson 3.1 and we will make some complete examples about this lesson.

The plan of this week includes two theory and exercises sessions on 1st of April from 10.30 to 12.30 and from 12.30 to 14.30. According to the plan, there is no laboratory session this week.

1. Theory and exercises session. 1st April from 10.30 to 12.30.

This session will be imparted by means of the videoconferencing tool GMeet. In this session we will complete the lesson 2.2: Observability. We will study the section 4 of this lesson, and we will solve the example 5.

After this session, you will be able to solve all the exercises of the sheet of unit 2. Please do so and ask me any doubt you have about them.

2. Theory and exercises session. 1st April from 12.30 to 14.30.

This session will also be imparted by means of the videoconferencing tool GMeet. In this session we will start studying the unit 3 (control of systems in the state-space). More concisely, we will study lesson 3.1, sections 1 and 2.

Additionally, please, remember the deadlines of the lab reports:

- Deadline of report for Lab2: 1st of April
- Deadline of report for Lab3: 8th of April
- The optional exercise of Lab3 (section d of Exercise 2) will be rewarded with +0.25 additional points over the final grade of the lab practices (the maximum grade that you can attain in the lab practices is 10 points).
