Announcement – Midterm exam 1

Hello everyone,

The 1st partial exam will be held on April 24 at 10.30 am. The length of the exam is 2 hours. This exam will evaluate the contents of Unit 1 (lessons 1.1 to 1.3). Please find detailed instructions in the attached document.

The exam will be composed of 2 exercises  (7 marks) and 2 questions or brief exercises (3 marks).

You can make use of a computer (Matlab/Simulink) during the exam to make the calculations.

Remind that in the continuous evaluation model, the final mark will be:
‚Äď Midterm Exam 1. 30% of the mark.¬† (April 24)
‚Äď Midterm Exam 2.¬†40% of the mark.¬† ¬†(May 27)
‚Äď Practical mark. 30% of mark.¬† ¬†(Each report has a specific deadline)
‚Äď Final exercises (available on the blog). Up to 1 additional point.¬† (You can solve these three exercises either individually or in teams up to 3 students. The deadline is June 3)

State-Space Control. Week from 6th April. Online teaching and learning process

Hi everybody,

The plan of this week includes a lab session on 8th of April from 10.30 to 12.30 and a theory and exercises session from 12.30 to 14.30. This is the plan for each of these sessions:


1. Practical session. 8th April from 10.30 to 12.30. This session will be imparted by means of the videoconferencing tool GMeet.

  • First, remember that this day will be the deadline of the reports of Lab3.
  • We will begin with an introduction to Lab4. This lab practice will take two sessions (8th and 22th of April). We will introduce the main concepts of this lab practice, with examples.
  • Then, the exercises of this lab practice, which you must solve, will be explained.
  • Finally, you will be allowed to ask any remaining doubts that you may have about Lab3.

2. Theory and exercises session. 8th April from 12.30 to 14.30.

This session will also be imparted by means of the videoconferencing tool GMeet. In this session we will finish lesson 3.1 and we will make some complete examples about this lesson.


Finally, remind that there is a section on the blog (Journal of Lectures) where the recordings and the documents generated during the theory and exercises sessions are available:

State-Space Control. Week from 30th March. Online teaching and learning process

Hi everybody,

The plan of this week includes two theory and exercises sessions on 1st of April from 10.30 to 12.30 and from 12.30 to 14.30. According to the plan, there is no laboratory session this week.

1. Theory and exercises session. 1st April from 10.30 to 12.30.

This session will be imparted by means of the videoconferencing tool GMeet. In this session we will complete the lesson 2.2: Observability. We will study the section 4 of this lesson, and we will solve the example 5.

After this session, you will be able to solve all the exercises of the sheet of unit 2. Please do so and ask me any doubt you have about them.

2. Theory and exercises session. 1st April from 12.30 to 14.30.

This session will also be imparted by means of the videoconferencing tool GMeet. In this session we will start studying the unit 3 (control of systems in the state-space). More concisely, we will study lesson 3.1, sections 1 and 2.

Additionally, please, remember the deadlines of the lab reports:

  • Deadline of report for Lab2: 1st of April
  • Deadline of report for Lab3: 8th of April
  • The optional exercise of Lab3 (section d of Exercise 2) will be rewarded with +0.25 additional points over the final grade of the lab practices (the maximum grade that you can attain in the lab practices is 10 points).

State-Space Control. Week from 23rd March. Online teaching and learning process

The plan of this week includes a lab session on 25th of March from 10.30 to 12.30 and a theory and exercises session from 12.30 to 14.30. This is the plan for each of these sessions:

1. Practical session. 25th March from 10.30 to 12.30.

Lab 3: Discrete-time modeling in the State-Space. This practical lesson will be imparted by means of the videoconferencing tool GMeet

  • First, we will have an introduction of the contents of Lab3 and of the exercises that you will have to complete related to this session.
  • Then, we will solve doubts about the previous two lab lessons (Lab1 and Lab2), until the end of the session.
  • The deadline for delivering the reports of Lab3 will be the 8th of April.
  • Remember that the deadline for the report of Lab1 is 25th March.

2. Theory and exercises session. 25th March from 12.30 to 14.30.

State-Space Control. Week from 16th March. Online teaching and learning process

Hi again,

The plan of this week includes a lab session on 18th of March from 10.30 to 12.30 and an exercises session from 12.30 to 14.30. This is the plan for each of these sessions:

 

1. Practical session. 18th March from 10.30 to 12.30. 

We will impart the third practical lesson of this subject (Laboratory 2, solution of the state equation). This practical lesson will be imparted by means of the videoconferencing tool GMeet that has been enabled on the official webpage of this subject. Please, try to become familiar with this tool before the lesson starts, so that we can guarantee that all students can correctly use this tool for attending the videoconference, avoiding technical problems.

During this webcam meeting, we will proceed as follows:

  • First, Adri√°n will give you a short introduction with the main concepts of the next practical lesson (Laboratory 2, solution of the state equation), and Adri√°n will briefly explain the exercises that you must complete in your report for this lesson¬†(the deadline for sending Adri√°n the reports of the Lab2 will be the 1st of April).
  • Then, you will have the chance to ask Adri√°n any question or doubt that you may have had about the four exercises of Lab1 (especially regarding the last exercise, the one with coupled tanks). The deadline for sending Adri√°n the report of Lab1 (with the answers to the four exercises) is the 25th of March.

You can send your reports to apeidro@umh.es. Please, send your reports in PDF format, and include in them all the Matlab commands that you used for solving the exercises, as well as the necessary explanations, graphs, plots, and screenshots of the Simulink schemes, and also the results that Matlab/Simulink generate after running the necessary commands (exception: as we discussed in the last lab practice, do not include long vectors of numerical data in the report, it is preferable to include these data graphically, in plots). If available, we strongly encourage you to also send all the Matlab and Simulink files that you used for solving the exercises (.m, .mdl, .slx, .mat, etc), since this will allow us to better assess your work and detect mistakes, in case we found that some of the results presented in the PDF reports are not correct.

 

2. Theory and exercises session. 18th March from 12.30 to 14.30.

This session will also be imparted by means of the videoconferencing tool GMeet that has been enabled on the official webpage of this subject. In this session we will solve some exercises of lesson 1.3 and 2.1. More concisely, we will address the following exercises:

  • Lesson 1.3: Exercises 5(c) and 6.
  • Lesson 2.1: Exercises 1, 2 and 3.

Additionally, during this videoconference, you will be able to ask any question or doubt about any of the concepts or exercises studied so far.

State-Space Control: Online teaching and learning process

Dear students,

Given the suspension of classroom teaching activity, and considering the recommendations of the UMH to continue the teaching process online, we would like to inform you about the process we will follow with the subject ‚ÄúState-Space Control‚ÄĚ.

At the beginning of each week we will publish an announcement detailing the planning of the lessons and lab sessions for that week, indicating the topics and sections to study and the training activities that we propose to you. Next, we’ll post a new announcement with the schedule for the week of March 16th.

It is important that you keep bringing the subject up to date. In this way, you can continue doing the exercises proposed in the problem sheets, and you can send us by e-mail all the doubts that arise. We can also have tutorials through videoconference.

About the midterm exam 1, given the impossibility of taking exams in person, I think it is best to suspend the date of the exam. As soon as there is a forecast to resume face-to-face teaching activity, we will talk and try to set a new date that best suits everyone. We will try to do a collective review and tutorial session before this midterm exam, as planned.

Finally, we would like to convey a message of calm and encouragement in this situation. Take good care of yourself. See you when the situation changes and the face-to-face teaching activity resumes.

Therefore, the first practical session will take place tomorrow, 4th March, from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm, Laboratory ISA 2, Altet Building.
